Last week I spent quite a while watching and reading about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, until I was overwhelmed by emotions and tears. It is so devastating and the damage is so catastrophic that it seems impossible. Being so distant from the site makes me feel almost hopeless. I began to wonder what we can do from halfway around the world.
We can each do what we are able, whether it is a small or large gesture. I already had this painting in my shop, and thought it was perfect for raising money to send to the Red Cross. I attached a note to it indicating that all profits would be sent overseas...little did I know that there is an entire movement on Etsy of shop-owners prepared to donate their earnings to the cause. There is a way to search for them: to find sellers donating proceeds to this cause search 'artistaid' or 'joyforjapan'. Here is a direct link to the search window.
I hope that everyone will consider sending what they can. Together even small amounts will add up to something that makes a difference. My heart goes out to the people of Japan. ♥

What a beautiful painting! It's exciting to see so many people coming together to do what they can for those who need it. Sometimes it feels like we live in such a selfish world, but it's inspiring to see people so willing to give to help each other.
